Hui Hai ; Chinese Zen Master (d. 788), a disciple of Matsu. Author of a work translated by John Blofeld as The Path to Sudden Attainment (1948). According to Suzuki, ‘one of the most illuminating works on Zen Buddhism when it was about to attain its full development after Hui-neng’.
