Commentary on the Meditation on the Buddha Infinite Life Sutra, The
観無量寿経疏 (Chin Kuan-wu-liang-shou-ching-shu; Jpn Kammuryoju-kyo-sho )
A work by Shan-tao (613-681), a patriarch of the Chinese Pure Land school. Shan-tao set forth an original interpretation of the Meditation on the Buddha Infinite Life Sutra, asserting that the primary practice for attaining rebirth in Amida's Pure Land is Nembutsu, recitation of the name of Amida Buddha. Among the many commentaries on the Meditation on the Buddha Infinite Life Sutra, this is the best known; it moved Honen to dedicate himself to the exclusive practice of the Nembutsu and establish the Pure Land ( Jodo) school in Japan.
