 Ajitavati
阿恃多伐底河 (Skt; Jpn Ajitabattei-ga)

Also known as Airavati, Ajiravati, or Achiravati. A river flowing through Kushinagara in India. According to The Record of the Western Regions, the Chinese priest Hsüan-tsang's record of his travels through [[Wikipedia:Central Asia|Central Asia]] and India in the seventh century, the Ajitavati River is where Shakyamuni Buddha entered nirvana. Therefore the river is generally believed to be identical with the Hiranyavati River, which is where Shakyamuni died in a grove of sal trees near its west bank.
