WHAT IS THE BLUEGUM SANGHA?
The Bluegum Sangha is an insight (vipassana) meditation group based on the North Shore in Sydney.
‘Sangha’ refers to a spiritual community.
‘Bluegum’ is a eucalypt that proliferates in the Sydney area.
Sister sanghas in Sydney include the Tortoise Mountain, Golden Wattle and Beaches Sanghas.
WHAT IS THE SANGHA FOR?
The sangha provides an opportunity to:
- meditate with others once a week
- hear from a variety of Buddhist teachers
- study and practise the dharma (teaching)
- connect with like-minded people
- be informed about upcoming retreats and activities
THE SCHOOL OF BUDDHISM
We are insight meditation practitioners whose starting point is in the Buddha’s original teachings. The sangha learns from lay teachers.
Bluegum doesn’t identify with any of the traditional divisions in the Buddhist world (Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana).
THE TEACHERS
The Bluegum Sangha’s founding teacher is Subhana Barzaghi.
Bluegum Sangha receives regular dharma talks and guidance from the following teachers:
- Subhana Barzaghi
- Winton Higgins
- Christopher McLean
- Victor von der Heyde
We also hear talks from other teachers, including the Venerable Sujato and Patrick Kearney, and international guest teachers such as Stephen Batchelor, Gregory Kramer and Jason Siff.
Regular teachings have also included sutta study led by Winton Higgins & Christopher McLean.
THE PROGRAM
An up-to-date program of the activities may be found on the Bluegum website.
Notice of other events and retreats are also announced at the Tuesday meetings and via an email distribution list.
