Hui-k’o ; In Jap. Eka. The Second Chinese Zen Patriarch, who received his enlightenment from Bodhidharma (q.v.). A famous figure in Chinese art for his dramatic gesture in cutting off his arm as he stood outside in the snow, to impress Bodhidharma with his determination to be admitted and given Zen.
