Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia is now 14 years old

Our Encyclopedia recently received a wonderful opportunity for a major renewal on its 14th birthday . After many years of growing our Encyclopedia had become bit slow and sometimes even decided not to answer when people knocked on the door.

A very big thank you and blessings to Dmytro Rudiy (rudiy.nl) for his great work in upgrading the server, website and all of the infrastructure and helping make TBE fast and reliable again for everyone! 🙏🙏🙏

We kindly ask our readers to help us cover the cost of this important upgrade and also help with the ongoing costs of keeping the Encyclopedia alive and freely available.

Gyümé Dratsang (Wyl. rgyud smad grva tshang) or Lower Tantric College is one of two the main tantric colleges of the Gelug tradition with Gyütö Dratsang. (Tib: Gyüme)

One of the five major monasteries of the Gelug school in or around Lhasa; it was founded in 1433 by Je Sherab Senge, a disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa. Originally located in lower Central Tibet and then Lhasa, it has now been re-established in Hunsur, south India.

See also : Upper Tantric College.

It was founded in Lhasa in 1440 by one of Jé Tsongkhapa's students, Sherab Senge (1383-1445).

The oldest former abbot of Gyümé receives the title of Jangtsé Chöjé and becomes a candidate for the Ganden Tripa position at the head of the Gelugpa School.
