A simple practice of Chöd ('severance') extracted from the Essential Manual of Oral Instructions (zhal gdams snying byang), which is part of the Chokling Tersar, and supplemented by verses of introduction and conclusion composed by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.

དང་པོ་སྐྱབས་འགྲོ་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་ནི།

Begin with refuge and bodhicitta

ན་མོ།

namo

Namo.

བདག་སོགས་འགྲོ་ཀུན་བྱང་ཆུབ་བར། །

dak sok dro kün changchub bar

I, along with all other beings,

རྩ་བ་གསུམ་ལ་སྐྱབས་སུ་མཆི། །

tsawa sum la kyab su chi

Take refuge in the three roots.

གཞན་དོན་སངས་རྒྱས་འཐོབ་བྱའི་ཕྱིར། །

shyendön sangye tob jé chir

I will train in offering the body

ལུས་ཀྱི་མཆོད་སྦྱིན་བསྒོམ་པར་བགྱི། །

lü kyi chöjin gompar gyi

So as to awaken for the benefit of all.

ལུས་སྦྱིན་དངོས་ནི།

Actual Offering of the Body

ཕཊ྄༔ རང་སེམས་མ་བཅོས་ཁྲོས་མ་ནག༔

p’et, rangsem machö tröma nak

Phaṭ! My uncontrived mind appears as the wrathful black ḍākinī.

ཚངས་པའི་ལམ་ནས་རྒྱངས་ཀྱིས་ཐོན༔

tsangpé lam né gyang kyi tön

She leaves my body, shooting through the pathway of the brahma-aperture and far into the sky.

འོད་གསལ་དབྱིངས་ཀྱི་ནམ་མཁའ་ལ༔

ösal ying kyi namkha la

Within the sky-like expanse of luminosity

རིག་པ་རང་སྣང་ཕྱག་རྒྱར་ཤར༔

rigpa rangnang chakgyar shar

Awareness naturally appears as the mudrā.

ཕྱག་གཡས་རྡོ་རྗེའི་གྲི་གུག་གིས༔

chak yé dorjé driguk gi

With the vajra-cleaver in her right hand

རང་ལུས་ཕུང་པོ་དུམ་བུར་གཏུབ༔

rang lü pungpo dumbur tub

She chops my body into pieces

སྟོང་གསུམ་དང་མཉམ་ཐོད་པའི་ནང༔

tongsum dang nyam töpé nang

And heaps them into a skull-cup the size of the billionfold universe,

ཡེ་ཤེས་བདུད་རྩིའི་རྒྱ་མཚོར་བསྐྱིལ༔

yeshe dütsi gyatsor kyil

Where they gather and transform into an oceanic nectar of wisdom;

རླངས་པ་འདོད་ཡོན་ལྔ་ལྡན་པའི༔

langpa döyön ngaden pé

The steam of which transforms into cloud-banks filled with offerings

མཆོད་སྤྲིན་མཁའ་དང་མཉམ་པར་སྤེལ༔

chötrin kha dang nyampar pel

To delight the five senses, increasing to fill the entire sky;

ཟག་མེད་བདེ་བ་ཆེན་པོའི་རྫས༔

zakmé dewa chenpö dzé

These substances of uncontaminated bliss

འཕེལ་འགྲིབ་བྲལ་བའི་རྒྱན་དུ་གྱུར༔

peldrib dralwé gyen du gyur

Become an ornament beyond expansion and reduction.

ཨོཾ་ཨཱཿཧཱུྃ༔

om ah hung

Oṃ āḥ hūṃ.

ཕཊ྄༔ སྣང་སྲིད་སྣོད་བཅུད་ཐམས་ཅད་ཀུན༔

p’et, nangsi nöchü tamché kün

Phaṭ! Absolutely everything—the environment and those whose who inhabit it—

གདོད་ནས་རྣམ་གྲོལ་ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཆེ༔

döné namdrol chakgya ché

Has only ever been sealed as complete liberation.

འོད་གསལ་སྒྱུ་མའི་རོལ་པ་ལས༔

ösal gyumé rolpa lé

From within this magical play of luminosity

སྲིད་ཞི་ཅིར་ཡང་སྣང་བའི་མགྲོན༔

sishyi chiryang nangwé drön

Appear both saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, filled with guests

ཕྱོགས་མཚམས་སྟེང་འོག་ཀུན་ཏུ་ཁྱབ༔

choktsam tengok küntu khyab

Who pervade every direction all around, above and below.

འགྲོ་འོང་མེད་པའི་དགོངས་པར་བརྡལ༔

dro ong mepé gongpar dal

The realization which lies beyond coming and going

ཐམས་ཅད་རོ་མཉམ་ཆེན་པོའི་ངང༔

tamché ronyam chenpö ngang

Unfolds in vast measure, and all is realized to be of a single taste.

དཀོན་མཆོག་རྩ་གསུམ་རྒྱ་མཚོ་མཆོད༔

könchok tsa sum gyatso chö

Within that realization I offer to the oceanic three precious ones and three roots;

ཆོས་སྐྱོང་སྲུང་མའི་ཐུགས་དམ་བསྐང༔

chökyong sungmé tukdam kang

I offer to appease the dharma guardians and purify broken samaya;

བགེགས་རིགས་ལན་ཆགས་ཚིམས་ཕྱིར་སྦྱིན༔

gek rik lenchak tsim chir jin

I offer to clear my karmic debts and appease the troublemakers to whom I’m indebted;

རིགས་དྲུག་སྙིང་རྗེའི་ཚོགས་ལ་བསྔོ༔

rik druk nyingjé tsok la ngo

And finally out of compassion, I offer this nectar to all other sentient beings.

ཟག་མེད་བདུད་རྩིའི་མཆོད་སྦྱིན་གྱིས༔

zakmé dütsi chöjin gyi

Through this offering of uncontaminated nectar,

དགྱེས་ཤིང་མཉེས་ནས་རབ་ཚིམས་ཏེ༔

gyé shing nyé né rab tsim té

May the four guests be pleased and satisfied;

བསོད་ནམས་ཚོགས་ཆེན་ལྷུན་གྱིས་གྲུབ༔

sönam tsokchen lhün gyi drub

And the accumulation of merit spontaneously perfected;

ཡེ་ཤེས་འོད་གསལ་རྩོལ་མེད་ཤར༔

yeshe ösal tsolmé shar

May the wisdom of natural luminosity effortlessly arise;

འཁོར་གསུམ་མཚན་མ་ལས་འདས་པའི༔

khor sum tsenma lé depé

And may all render evident the primordial, natural state,

གདོད་མའི་གནས་ལུགས་མངོན་གྱུར་ཤོག༔

dömé neluk ngöngyur shok

Which lies beyond the concepts of the three times.

Phaṭ!

ཅེས་བརྗོད་ལ་དམིགས་མེད་ངང་དུ་བཞག་གོ །

Recite this and rest in unobservable, non-conceptual emptiness.

སྦྱིན་པ་རྒྱ་ཆེན་གྱུར་པ་འདི་ཡི་མཐུས། ། འགྲོ་བའི་དོན་དུ་རང་བྱུང་སངས་རྒྱས་ཤོག ། སྔོན་གྱི་རྒྱལ་བ་རྣམས་ཀྱིས་མ་བསྒྲལ་བའི། ། སྐྱེ་བོའི་ཚོགས་རྣམས་སྦྱིན་པས་གྲོལ་གྱུར་ཅིག །

Through the power of my immeasurable offering, May the buddha nature be swiftly rendered evident For the betterment of all and, for those who were not liberated by the buddhas of the past, May they be liberated by my generosity.

ཅེས་སྔོན་རྗེས་ངག་འདོན་དིལ་མཁྱེན་མངྒ་ལས་བསྡེབས་པའོ།།
