Samghabhadra 僧伽跋陀羅・衆賢 (n.d.) (Skt; Jpn Sogyabaddara or Shugen)
A monk and scholar of the Sarvastivada school thought to have lived in India around the fourth or fifth century. Born in Kashmir, he is known as the author of The Treatise on Accordance with the Correct Doctrine and A Clarification of Doctrine. To rebut Vasubandhu's Dharma Analysis Treasury, which was at once a systematic exposition on and a criticism of Sarvastivada doctrine, Samghabhadra wrote The Treatise on Accordance with the Correct Doctrine. This was itself a detailed exposition of Sarvastivada doctrine as well as a defense and exaltation of its orthodoxy. Samghabhadra wanted to confront Vasubandhu in debate, but died before realizing that wish.
