World Freedom King
世自在王仏 (Skt Lokeshvararaja; Jpn Sejizaio-butsu)

A Buddha described in the Buddha Infinite Life Sutra, one of the primary texts of the Pure Land teachings. According to that sutra, Amida Buddha, taking the name Dharma Treasury, carried out Buddhist practice in a previous existence under the Buddha World Freedom King. At that time, in the presence of the Buddha World Freedom King, Dharma Treasury made forty-eight vows concerning the characteristics his Buddha land would embody when he attained supreme enlightenment.
