Tibetan Buddhist Encyclopedia is now 14 years old

Our Encyclopedia recently received a wonderful opportunity for a major renewal on its 14th birthday . After many years of growing our Encyclopedia had become bit slow and sometimes even decided not to answer when people knocked on the door.

A very big thank you and blessings to Dmytro Rudiy (rudiy.nl) for his great work in upgrading the server, website and all of the infrastructure and helping make TBE fast and reliable again for everyone!

We kindly ask our readers to help us cover the cost of this important upgrade and also help with the ongoing costs of keeping the Encyclopedia alive and freely available.

1) Vimokṣa (विमोक्ष, “liberation”) or Aṣṭavimokṣa refers to a set of “eight liberations” as defined in the Dharma-saṃgraha (section 59):

Vimoksha, : Vimokṣa

one having form perceives forms as empty,

not perceiving forms internally, one perceives forms externally as empty,

one perceives being resolved on beauty as empty,

one perceives the sphere of endless space as empty,

one perceives the sphere of endless consciousness as empty,

one perceives the sphere of nothingness as empty,

one perceives the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception as empty,

one perceives the sphere of the cessation of perception and feeling as empty.

The Dharma-samgraha (Dharmasangraha) is an extensive glossary of Buddhist technical terms in Sanskrit (eg., vimokṣa). The work is attributed to Nagarjuna who lived around the 2nd century A.D.

2) Vimokṣa (विमोक्ष, “liberation”) or Trivimokṣa refers to the “three liberations” as defined in the Dharma-saṃgraha (section 73):

śūnyata (empty), animitta (signless), apraṇihita (desireless).
