Khailantain khuree

The name of Khailantain khuree (Monastery of Khailantai) was named after the name of the place, Khailantai.

The monastery was also called Khatanbaatar vangiin khuree (monastery of Khatanbaatar wang) given its location in the territory of Baatar vangiin khoshuu, which was founded in 1917. Initially the monastery had one datsan, Avlyn datsan (datsan of Avla).

Later a Tsogchen temple, the Choir datsan (college of Buddhist philosophy), the Baruun and Zuun datsans, the Yandal temple, the Duinkhor (Kalachakra) temple and Yidam temple were built. When monastery was first opened there were 200 monks.

The astrologist called Choijiljav zeerembe of Namnan Khuree consecrated the monastery and the first abbot was Bud gavj. The college of Buddhist philosophy had 7 classes.

Tsam dance was performed in the monastery, which also held the annual Maidar (Maitreya) procession. 42 monks are said to have conducted rituals in the Duinkhor temple. The main tutelary deity of the monastery was Jamsran (Begtse Dharmapala).

At its height, the monastery had 300 resident monks although before its closure there were 139 monks in 7 temples, 7 datsans and 5 jas. The last temple was dismantled in the winter of 1945.
